AFFORDABLE HOUSING PRESERVATION PROGRAM
-
In Fall 2002, in response to the City of Los Angeles' growing risk of permanently losing affordable multifamily rental housing units to market rate, the Mayor and City Council instructed LAHD to develop a comprehensive program to manage the City's affordable housing inventory, including ways to prevent, or mitigate, the loss of affordable units. In Fall 2004, the City of Los Angeles approved the Affordable Housing Preservation Program. The Preservation Program includes recommendations for a notice ordinance, finance guidelines for preservation transactions, outreach and education, and the creation of a Preservation Coordinator position to implement and manage the Preservation Program.
-
The Preservation Program is now being implemented and program components--which will be posted to the web--are being developed. Staff has prepared a report detailing the
Preservation Program.

- The Council was formed by former Mayor Richard Riordan and has been meeting since October 2000. This body convenes to discuss policy direction and explore areas of possible collaboration that will best serve the needs of relative caregivers throughout the City and County of Los Angeles. The Council includes City and County agencies and members of the public (who are themselves relative caregivers). The Council is currently on hiatus after publication of a Kinship Resource Directory.
