Residential Hotel (click to see video)

The Residential Hotel program was established by City Council action in July of 2004. Prior to the creation of the Residential Hotel program, the City had no program in place to conduct Systematic Code Enforcement Program style inspections for residential hotels. The Department of Building and Safety responded only to complaints. As the program has evolved we have learned that properties that at one time had been occupied by transients have now become the primary residence for many. As new referrals are made to the Residential Hotel unit they are evaluated to see if they fit the criteria of a Residential Hotel. Inspectors conduct site surveys; evaluate the Office of Finance's Transient Occupancy Reporting Tax forms, and interview tenants to determine if a building should be add to the Residential Hotel program.
