HOUSING THAT WORKS

  • A 5-year, $5 billion plan to build 20,000 affordable housing units and bridge the gap between the housing LA produces and the housing LA needs. The plan promotes mixed-income housing, investment in new neighborhoods along public transit corridors, and relief to families facing foreclosure. More...

AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN LOS ANGELES

  • The City of Los Angeles currently has 63,562 affordable housing units across the city in 1,826 developments, serving very low income; low income and moderate income households.  The vast majority of these affordable units have been financed with public funds.  The requirements of the public funding include maintaining the affordability for a specific number of years.

LAHD is currently updating a series of maps and tables detailing all of the City's affordable housing resources.

 AFFORDABLE HOUSING PRESERVATION PROGRAM

  • In Fall 2002, in response to the City of Los Angeles' growing risk of permanently losing affordable multifamily rental housing units to market rate, the Mayor and City Council instructed LAHD to develop a comprehensive program to manage the City's affordable housing inventory, including ways to prevent, or mitigate, the loss of affordable units.

In Fall 2004, the City of Los Angeles approved the Affordable Housing Preservation Program. The Preservation Program includes recommendations for a notice ordinance, finance guidelines for preservation transactions, outreach and education, and the creation of a Preservation Coordinator position to implement and manage the Preservation Program.

The Preservation Program is now being implemented and program components--which will be posted to the web--are being developed.

HOUSING CRISIS TASK FORCE

  • In Short Supply: Recommendations of the Los Angeles Housing Crisis Task Force (.pdf - 6.4MB)
As this is a rather large file, it is suggested that you right-click on the link above and choose "Save Target As" to save the file to your computer.
  • A Housing Crisis Task Force comprised of business and community representatives and staff of City agencies was convened by the Los Angeles City Council to consider the profound crisis of housing affordability in the City.

KINSHIP CARE COORDINATING COUNCIL

  • The Council was formed by former Mayor Richard Riordan and has been meeting since October 2000. This body convenes to discuss policy direction and explore areas of possible collaboration that will best serve the needs of relative caregivers throughout the City and County of Los Angeles. The Council includes City and County agencies and members of the public (who are themselves relative caregivers). The Council is currently on hiatus after publication of a Kinship Resource Directory.
