Mayor Villaraigosa's five year, $5 billion plan to build 20,000 affordable housing units and bridge the gap between the housing LA produces and the housing LA needs. AFFORDABLE HOUSING PRESERVATION PROGRAM (AHPP)
-
In response to the City of Los Angeles' growing risk of permanently losing affordable multifamily rental housing units to market rate, the Mayor and City Council instructed LAHD to develop a comprehensive program to manage the City's affordable housing inventory, including ways to prevent, or mitigate, the loss of affordable units.
In 2004, the City Council approved the Affordable Housing Preservation Program (AHPP). The AHPP is part of the Policy and Planning Unit of the Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD). The program was designed to preserve affordable housing in the City by enforcing notice requirements, facilitating preservation transactions, monitoring the affordable housing at-risk portfolio and conducting outreach to property owners, tenants and stakeholders.
The Program is managed by a Project Coordinator, Project Assistant and two outreach and technical assistance contractors.
